Message: With proper protection and attention to maintenance, an inclined slide gate can perform satisfactorily and may be the most cost effective option.

It was decided the most cost effective approach for this western Montana dam following sliplining was to retain the inclined slide gate. Retaining the existing structure, eliminated the need to excavate into the embankment, which is a significant consideration. Any time you excavate into an adequately performing embankment, there is risk of opening up new seepage paths. The gate structure was upgraded with special attention to stem protection. This dam is not open to the public, reducing the risk of vandalism that often occurs with exposed gate operators. The owner is also aware of the need for consistent maintenance.
