Message: Center control towers provide protection from ice, vandalism, and provides ease of operation for the dam owner.

This southwestern Montana dam originally had an inclined slide gate. The owner decided to replace the inclined gate with a center control single chamber tower with a single gate, to avoid the operational problems with the inclined slide gate. Choosing this option required significant excavation into the dam in order to install the tower and slide gate. However the tower provides much needed protection from ice and vandalism and is easier to operate and maintain than the original gate system. Thinking for the long term, this owner decided the extra expense and engineering design was worth it.
