There are currently over 90,000 dams in the United States National Inventory of Dams (NID), with 76% of these having a High Hazard potential classification and and average age of 60 years.<ref name="NID">National Inventory of Dams, USACE, 2022</ref> As a result of the high consequences that accompany the failure of any High [[Hazard Potential]] dam, the rehabilitation of these aging structures becomes increasingly necessary.
