“Water surface elevations should be measured and compared with data collected from embankment instruments to evaluate embankment performance. Various instruments to measure water surface elevations are commercially available. Instruments to measure water level include staff gauge, float and encoder, pressure transducer, ultrasonic, and radar. Methods of recording data include chart and digital recorders. Simple staff gauges should be periodically compared as a check on automated systems”.[1]
